{"id":68815,"date":"2018-07-31T11:05:28","date_gmt":"2018-07-31T09:05:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=68815"},"modified":"2018-07-31T11:05:29","modified_gmt":"2018-07-31T09:05:29","slug":"mulhakho-at-patricia-kaliatis-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/07\/31\/mulhakho-at-patricia-kaliatis-home\/","title":{"rendered":"Mulhakho at Patricia Kaliati\u2019s home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>BY FESTON MALEKEZO:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Some members of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.times.mw\/malawis-most-influential-ethnic-grouping-angry-with-kaliati\/\">Mulhakho wa Alhomwe<\/a> grouping Monday gathered at Mulanje West legislator Patricia Kaliati\u2019s residence at Mkando in Mulanje District for vigils to force her to apologise to Lhomwe people over remarks.<\/p>\n<p>Kaliati, who is secretary general of the newly launched political group <a href=\"https:\/\/www.times.mw\/at-last-chilima-speaks\/\">United Transformation Movement<\/a> (UTM), is being forced to make the apology over remarks she uttered at UTM\u2019s launch in Lilongwe which are deemed to have offended members of the tribe.<\/p>\n<p>Among other things, Kaliati said Paramount Chief Ngolongoliwa and Mulhakho wa Alhomwe Chairperson, Leston Mulli, endorsed Saulos Chilima as presidential candidate.<\/p>\n<p>Mulhakhowa Alhomwe chief executive officer, Muchanakhwaye Mpuluka, said they will be at Kaliati\u2019s house until she bows down to pressure and apologises to them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe, Lhomwes, believe that everything we do should be peaceful. So we will be singing, some have brought their kitchen utensils and they will be cooking while others will be praying to our ancestors. We will be here until Kaliati apologises,\u201d Mpuluka said.<\/p>\n<p>Asked whether they had sought police clearance to hold the vigils, Mpuluka, said there was no need.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs far as these issues are concerned, we don\u2019t even want to seek permission because it is as if we, Lhomwes, have been saddened by the remarks. So, if you have funeral, you hold a vigil. Do you need to go to police for that?\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Kaliati, a Lhomwe herself, has stuck to her guns.<\/p>\n<p>She said Mpuluka and those who have camped at her house are infringing on her rights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is my private house. They should know that. Therefore, they are infringing on my rights. I am not going to bow down to whatever forces they are bringing in. Whatever they are saying is not holding water.
