{"id":6875,"date":"2015-08-03T07:15:03","date_gmt":"2015-08-03T07:15:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=6875"},"modified":"2015-08-03T07:15:03","modified_gmt":"2015-08-03T07:15:03","slug":"saulos-chilima-scores-2-club-in-mulhako-golf-tourney","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2015\/08\/03\/saulos-chilima-scores-2-club-in-mulhako-golf-tourney\/","title":{"rendered":"Saulos Chilima scores 2 club in Mulhako golf tourney"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The country\u2019s Vice-President Saulos Chilima joined the Mulhako wa Alomwe fundraising golf tournament on solidarity just to tee it off at Mulanje Golf Club on Saturday, but he decided to go on and play nine holes to spice it up further.<\/p>\n<p>In turn, he managed to score a two club at par three hole number 6 and one of his playing partners, Ken Chilewe of Hapuwani Lodge, also scored his on the par 3 hole number 8.<\/p>\n<p>With his team mate Roza Mbilizi, they scored 20 points on the front nine holes and when he left, Mbilizi alone chalked 23 points to make a total of 43 \u2014 just four short of the eventual winners, Tony Chiwaya and Charles Merrick playing as team Nico Holdings.<\/p>\n<p>Chilewe and his team mate, Malawi National Council of Sports board chairman James Chuma also scored 47 points but were counted out by team Nico Holdings.<\/p>\n<p>Bright Dzoole and Klema Hau, playing under Malawi Bureau of Standards, scored 46 points to come third while team Zachilomwe Transport of Rodney Chatama and Peter Tsamwa were fourth with 45 points.<\/p>\n<p>Chilima\u2019s team attracted a huge following to sample his expertise at the game he has played for a long time and the Veep said at the end of the game that he thoroughly enjoyed himself since he never have time to play regularly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a very good outing,\u201d he said. \u201cI enjoyed the good camaraderie with my playing partners, Roza, Ken and James. We laughed a lot throughout the nine holes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI need to play more, I am a bit rusty. However, the intention was not to win but to support the event for Mulhako wa Alomwe, whose noble cause is to preserve culture.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs you are aware, Mulhako wa Alomwe donated blood last week as one way of preparing for the main celebrations to take place in October. This event is to raise funds for the main event,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Chilima\u2019s caddy was national team coach Chris Kachiguma, who said the Veep still is a good golfer who just needed to play more.<\/p>\n<p>Also present was Minister of Gender Patricia Kaliati, who was part of the crowd that followed Chilima\u2019s team and they shared jokes with the crowd at hole number 9 before the Veep departed.<\/p>\n<p>Chuma, who was the tournament\u2019s organising committee chairman, applauded the corporate companies who supported the cause and they expect to raise over K5 million kwacha.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are proud that we received positive response from the corporate world as well as from the golfers who came all the way from Blantyre, Limbe, Thyolo, Zomba and also from Lilongwe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAttracting a field of 52 golfers is not a mean achievement and I sincerely thank you golfers for your support,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The country\u2019s Vice-President Saulos Chilima joined the Mulhako wa Alomwe fundraising golf tournament on solidarity just to tee it off at Mulanje Golf Club on Saturday, but he decided to go on and play nine holes to spice it up further.
