{"id":68702,"date":"2018-07-26T11:05:33","date_gmt":"2018-07-26T09:05:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=68702"},"modified":"2018-07-26T11:05:34","modified_gmt":"2018-07-26T09:05:34","slug":"albinos-hair-lands-man-in-trouble","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/07\/26\/albinos-hair-lands-man-in-trouble\/","title":{"rendered":"Albino\u2019s hair lands man in trouble"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>BY GLADSON M\u2019BUMPHA, <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>A CONTRIBUTOR:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Police in Machinga District have arrested a 37-year-old man for allegedly keeping the hair of a person with the condition of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-malawi-justice-albinism\/malawi-urged-to-protect-people-with-albinism-from-attack-idUSKBN1JO00K\">albinism<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Machinga Police Station spokesperson, Davie Sulumba, identified the suspect as Mankhokwe Lilongwe of Nyangataya Village, Sub-Traditional Authority M\u2019chinguza, in the district.<\/p>\n<p>He said the incident happened early July this year at Nayuchi Border.<\/p>\n<p>Sulumba said the suspect, who is a member of Youth Net and Counselling Club in the area, visited the victim, Mafukeni Molesi, and cheated him that Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Esther Jolobala, had sent him to list down names of people with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-malawi-election-albinism\/malawians-with-albinism-to-fight-elections-in-bid-to-stop-killings-idUSKBN1JM2LO\">albinism<\/a> in the area.<\/p>\n<p>He said the legislator wanted to meet people with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-malawi-crime-albinism\/murder-of-man-with-albinism-in-malawi-sparks-call-for-death-penalty-idUSKBN1I31ZI\">albinism<\/a> in the area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe suspect further told the victim that he needed to look presentable during the scheduled meeting, hence the need for him to have a haircut at a barbershop.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe victim agreed and, after having a haircut, the suspect collected the victim\u2019s hair and kept it. This surprised the victim who pleaded with the suspect to release the hair but the suspect denied that he had collected the hair,\u201d Sulumba said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the matter was reported to Nayuchi Police Post where a follow up was made and, on July 8 2018, the suspect was arrested.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUpon interrogating the owner of the barbershop where the victim had a haircut, he revealed that the suspect indeed collected the hair and wrapped it in a plastic bag.
