{"id":68469,"date":"2018-07-19T10:48:41","date_gmt":"2018-07-19T08:48:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=68469"},"modified":"2018-07-19T10:48:41","modified_gmt":"2018-07-19T08:48:41","slug":"cftc-engages-acb-to-curb-anti-competitive-practices","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/07\/19\/cftc-engages-acb-to-curb-anti-competitive-practices\/","title":{"rendered":"CFTC engages ACB to curb anti-competitive practices"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BY AUDREY KAPALAMULA:<\/p>\n<p>The Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to fight anti-competitive business practices in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The MoU would see the two agencies cooperating in investigating and determining cases and sharing expertise, on among other elements, collusive tendering and bid-rigging in contract negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>CFTC Executive Director, Charlotte Malonda, said fraud and corruption remain threats to a fair and competitive business environment.<\/p>\n<p>She said the commission does not have the legal mandate to look into corrupt cases, hence, the partnership.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cACB has the legal mandate and technical expertise to intervene in corruption cases. We believe that this working arrangement will improve our capacity.
