{"id":68319,"date":"2018-07-13T09:34:14","date_gmt":"2018-07-13T07:34:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=68319"},"modified":"2018-07-13T09:34:15","modified_gmt":"2018-07-13T07:34:15","slug":"massa-ready-for-cosassa-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/07\/13\/massa-ready-for-cosassa-games\/","title":{"rendered":"Massa ready for Cosassa Games"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>BY PETER KANJERE:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Malawi Schools Sports Association (Massa) will send two sports teams to the Confederation of Southern Africa School Sport Associations (Cosassa) Ball Games scheduled for Namibia from August 31 to September 1.<\/p>\n<p>Massa General Secretary, Blackson Malamula, said they will dispatch under-17 football and netball teams to the regional competition, which involves learners from all Southern African nations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to send under-17 teams for secondary school learners. The competition is strictly for ball games such as volleyball, netball and football. We wanted to send a volleyball team but we do not have the resources,\u201d Malamula said.<\/p>\n<p>He said Moses Chimbekete from Mangochi District, a Caf C licence holder, will take charge of the football team with Caroline Phiri from Zomba in charge of the netball side.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have chosen games which we feel we stand a chance to compete in and win medals. Last year, we took a football team to Lesotho and it finished in the quarter-finals. Last year, we had financial constraints and we were unable to include netball on the travelling party. This year, we have submitted a budget to the Malawi National Council of Sports,\u201d Malamula said.<\/p>\n<p><em>Namibian <\/em>newspaper reports that the games will attract more than 1,000 athletes, with the opening ceremony scheduled for Windhoek\u2019s Independence Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>The closing ceremony will take place at the Safari Court Hotel on September 1.<\/p>\n<p>Other nations that will send athletes to the competition are Botswana, Lesotho, Zambia and Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n<p>Namibia are the overall defending champions of the Cosassa Games<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BY PETER KANJERE: Malawi Schools Sports Association (Massa) will send two sports teams to the Confederation of Southern Africa School Sport Associations (Cosassa) Ball Games scheduled for Namibia from August 31 to September 1.
