{"id":68128,"date":"2018-07-06T08:14:17","date_gmt":"2018-07-06T06:14:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=68128"},"modified":"2018-07-06T08:16:41","modified_gmt":"2018-07-06T06:16:41","slug":"68128-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/07\/06\/68128-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Ufulu Festival in 5th edition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>BY SAM BANDA JNR:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Flood Church is out again with the Ufulu Festival which is in its fifth edition and will be held at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe today.<\/p>\n<p>The free festival, which has in the past been held at Mbowe, will bring several activities including music performances from several renowned acts.<\/p>\n<p>Faith Mussa, Theo Thomson, Daughters Band, Suffix, KBG, Zathu Band, Menes La Plume, Gwamba, George Kalukusha, Julius Jules Banda and Ethel Kamwendo Banda are some of the artists billed to perform at the festival.<\/p>\n<p>Event Manager Humphreys Mkandawire said Ufulu Festival is an annual gathering organised on Independence Day with the aim of celebrating freedom, creativity and culture in a family friendly environment.<\/p>\n<p>The festival started in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year the festival saw significant growth; hence, moving to Civo Stadium. The festival aims to include all ages, promoting a family-friendly environment with no drinking or smoking [activities],\u201d Mkandawire said.<\/p>\n<p>He further said they are geared for the festival and that they have tightened a lot of loose ends from last year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn terms of creativity, we are going to have painters, who are painting our stage background and they will do this on the day things will be happening so we all see the stage transform,\u201d Mkandawire said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that they have more acts this year than any other year and that people should look forward to enjoying more.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur equipment is also better this year and we have partnered more organisations that are doing good causes in the city to let young people know what is really happening in our communities,\u201d Mkandawire said.<\/p>\n<p>He also said there has been more investment time into their kids\u2019 programme than any other year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a team that will be manning the kids\u2019 area so that should be exciting and our security team has done the ground work,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mkandawire said they are hoping to reach out to over 10,000 people this year.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the organisations they have partnered include FDH Bank, Nyanja Production, Civil Sporting Club, Innovision and Anchor Security.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BY SAM BANDA JNR: Flood Church is out again with the Ufulu Festival which is in its fifth edition and will be held at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe today.
