{"id":68005,"date":"2018-07-04T07:08:30","date_gmt":"2018-07-04T05:08:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=68005"},"modified":"2018-07-04T07:08:31","modified_gmt":"2018-07-04T05:08:31","slug":"tabitha-chawinga-leads-china-golden-boot-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/07\/04\/tabitha-chawinga-leads-china-golden-boot-race\/","title":{"rendered":"Tabitha Chawinga leads China Golden Boot race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>BY WILLIAMS GONDWA:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Malawi women\u2019s national football team star, Tabitha Chawinga, is now the leading goalscorer in the Chinese Women\u2019s Football League with nine goals from six games.<\/p>\n<p>Chawinga, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.times.mw\/tabitha-chawinga-ready-for-china-show\/\">who signed a two-year deal with Jaingsu Sunning<\/a> after parting ways with Swedish League side, Kvarnsverden, earlier this year, confirmed the development Tuesday, saying she hopes to enhance her chances of winning the Confederation of African Football Award which she missed last year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am very excited that I have settled in China. I know that my success could ignite the interest of Chinese teams in more Malawian players. It is my wish to be the top goalscorer here. I will work hard to realise this dream,\u201d Tabitha said.<\/p>\n<p>However, Sunning remain on fourth position with 11 points from six matches in the eight-member league.<\/p>\n<p>National Women\u2019s Football Association president, Severia Chalira, has since commended Chawinga for putting Malawi women\u2019s football on the world map.<\/p>\n<p>Chalira said Tabitha\u2019s sister, Temwa, was also among the leading scorers, with 16 goals in 12 games, in Sweden where she plays for Kvarnsveden IK.<\/p>\n<p>She said she hopes that the Chawinga sisters could contribute to the national team\u2019s success at the forthcoming Cosafa Championship.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are very happy with the performance of Tabitha and Temwa.
