{"id":67988,"date":"2018-07-04T06:16:57","date_gmt":"2018-07-04T04:16:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=67988"},"modified":"2018-07-04T06:16:57","modified_gmt":"2018-07-04T04:16:57","slug":"mozambican-group-set-to-star-at-forde-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/07\/04\/mozambican-group-set-to-star-at-forde-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"Mozambican group set to star at Forde Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>BY SAM BANDA JNR <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>IN FORDE, NORWAY:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A Mozambican group known as Tumbila Muzimba is set to perform at this year\u2019s Forde Traditional and World Music Festival in Norway, giving more representation to southern Africa.<\/p>\n<p>The Forde Traditional and World Music Festival, which starts today, through to Sunday, is the largest festival for traditional and world music in Scandinavia, presenting about 100 acts and 300 artists from all over the world.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Zimbabwe\u2019s group, Mokoomba, performed at the festival where they conquered.<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 1997, Timbila Muzimba orchestra is dedicated to preserving and expressing various <em>chopi <\/em>styles, including <em>tchopo<\/em>, <em>tchingomana, ngalanga <\/em>and <em>mgodo. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>The orchestra has produced two CDs titled <em>Conta Propria <\/em>and <em>Warethwa<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>There is no Malawian group once again at the festival.<\/p>\n<p>The last time the country participated in the festival was in 2016 when, through Music Crossroads Malawi, it participated in the Talent programme.<\/p>\n<p>The participants in the Talent programme were Thokozani Mdoko, Asante Maulidi and Patrick Chimbewa.<\/p>\n<p>Other African acts participating at the 29th edition of the festival are Fanfarai Big Band from Algeria and Elida Almeida from Cape Verde.<\/p>\n<p>The festival\u2019s Artistic and Managing director Hilde Bjorkum said this will be her last festival.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has been a real priviledge to lead the Forde Festival all these years. I admit we have heard some critical voices. We have had some tough times and a huge amount of work. But most importantly, there has been so much learning,\u201d Bjorkum said.<\/p>\n<p>Bjorkum visited the country last year on the Talent programme.<\/p>\n<p>The theme for this year\u2019s edition is \u201cThe Dance in the Music, the Music in the Dance\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn folk music, the dance is inseparable from the music and we celebrate the world\u2019s fantastic forms of dance expression and driving dance music both from our own country and from abroad,\u201d Bjorkum said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the country\u2019s Madalitso Band will today star at Roskilde Festival in Denmark.<\/p>\n<p>This is one of the top festivals in Europe and will this year feature other top acts such as Eminem and Bruno Mars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe band is geared for the festival and ready to fly Malawi\u2019s flag. After this festivaling we will go to Berlin, Germany,\u201d Neil Nayar, the band\u2019s Co-manager said Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The group\u2019 will perform in Germany on July 8, Switzerland on July 13 and then hold eight gigs in France starting from July 15 to 25.<\/p>\n<p>They will also hold three shows in Norway and one in Sweden before returning home in August<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BY SAM BANDA JNR IN FORDE, NORWAY: A Mozambican group known as Tumbila Muzimba is set to perform at this year\u2019s Forde Traditional and World Music Festival in Norway, giving more representation to southern Africa.
