{"id":67606,"date":"2018-06-27T09:14:20","date_gmt":"2018-06-27T07:14:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=67606"},"modified":"2018-06-27T09:14:21","modified_gmt":"2018-06-27T07:14:21","slug":"petroleum-importers-limited-intensifies-safety-awareness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/06\/27\/petroleum-importers-limited-intensifies-safety-awareness\/","title":{"rendered":"Petroleum Importers Limited intensifies safety awareness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NATHAN MAJAWA, CONTRIBUTOR:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Petroleum Importers Limited (PIL), in conjunction with the International Haulage Brokers (IHB), have equipped over 40 fuel tanker drivers in the Northern Region with road safety skills.<\/p>\n<p>PIL Quality Heath Safety Security and Environmental Manager, Constance Msungeni, said training was designed to train the drivers on how to prevent accidents and how to take care of their lives as they drive the fuel tankers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen trucks are involved in accidents, lives are affected, product is lost, public is at risk and the environment is destroyed,\u201d Msungeni said.<\/p>\n<p>Among others, the tanker drivers were enlightened on fuel, labels and chemical regulations, among others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDriver\u2019s errors contribute to 75 percent of all tanker accidents, so during these trainings, drivers have been trained to prepare in advance for the trip by checking tyres, oil, brake pads and to avoid over speeding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDrivers must always be alert as to what is happening on the road,\u201d he said<\/p>\n<p>One of participants, George Moyo, thanked PIL for the training, saying it will go a long way in reducing accidents<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe training is very helpful as it has equipped us with skills on how to prevent accidents,\u201d Moyo said.<\/p>\n<p>The first satiety training was conducted in Blantyre and over 100 drivers attended.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NATHAN MAJAWA, CONTRIBUTOR: The Petroleum Importers Limited (PIL), in conjunction with the International Haulage Brokers (IHB), have equipped over 40 fuel tanker drivers in the Northern Region with road safety skills.
