Gerald Phiri Junior\u2019s Manager, Paul Mitchell, Tuesday confirmed the interest of South Africa\u2019s Premier Soccer League champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, in the Flames attacker, but stressed that \u2018nothing is concrete at the moment.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is interest but that is as far as it is just now. They [Wits] are open to doing a deal,\u201d Mitchell said about the player who was recently linked with a move to Orlando Pirates.<\/p>\n

The Daily Times <\/em>had contacted Mitchell in South Africa to corroborate South Africa\u2019s Kick-Off <\/em>football magazine\u2019s report that Sundowns were considering swapping their Zimbabwean striker Cuthbert Malajira with Phiri.<\/p>\n

On Monday, Kick-Off <\/em>reported that Wits have, apart from Malajira, also shown interest in Liberian winger Anthony Laffor.<\/p>\n

\u201cSundowns have forwarded the proposal to Wits. They want to sign Phiri<\/a>. Wits are interested in signing Laffor from Sundowns. However, Downs are reported to have proposed to send Malajila to Wits as part of the swap deal,\u201d a source told Kick-Off.com<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Phiri, who has never completed a season playing for Wits since signing for them in 2016 from Zimbabwe\u2019s Caps United, reserved his comment on his career, saying he was back at Wits for pre-season training.<\/p>\n

Phiri, 24, only donned Wits\u2019 colours last season but did not finish the season as he was shipped to Platinum Stars for a second loan spell, scoring for them twice through free-kicks which are his speciality. In total, Phiri scored three goals and provided four assists at the two clubs.<\/p>\n

The former Be Forward Wanderers winger joined Botswana\u2019s Township Rollers in 2016 on loan but was unable to play for them due to work permit hitches before switching to Stars for his initial spell.<\/p>\n

Phiri was at Stars last season with Flames compatriot Robert Ng\u2019ambi whose future at the club is in doubt following the club\u2019s relegation.<\/p>\n

Malawian striker Atusaye Nyondo is also on his way out of Bloemfontein Celtic when his contract expires at the end of this month.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
