Newly-crowned Commonwealth Female Lightweight champion, Anisha Bashir, has called for more support towards boxing, saying Malawi has many talented boxers capable of winning titles.<\/p>\n
Bashir received a hero\u2019s welcome at Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe on Monday after she stopped Samantha \u2018SJ\u2019 Smith in the first-round at York Hall in London, United Kingdom, on Friday to add another belt.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf I can do it, I believe many other Malawian boxers can do it. Whether male or female, we are capable of winning titles. We just need support from different stakeholders to realise our dream,\u201d said the No Pain No Gain Boxing Promotions boxer.<\/p>\n
Bashir, who is also African Boxing Union (ABU) super lightweight holder, said she was moved by the reception she received on arrival.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Minister of Sports, Francis Kasaila and the board [Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board] president Lonzoe Zimba were in attendance. I have been motivated to work extra hard. I will not relax because I want to win a world belt,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Bashir said she was waiting for her management teams, No Pain No Gain Boxing Promotions and Delta Force Boxing Academy, to plan her next fight.<\/p>\n
Bashir, 20, has improved her record to eight straight knockout wins with five defeats whereas the record for Smith, 38, dropped to two defeats and eight wins.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
