Be Forward Wanderers General Secretary, Mike Butao, has apologised to some of the team\u2019s fans who were assaulted during the Airtel Top 8 semi-final match against Nyasa Big Bullets at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe last Saturday.<\/p>\n
Wanderers lost 2-1 to the People\u2019s Team.<\/p>\n
After the match, some angry supporters accused each other of being responsible for the team\u2019s bad patch at the Lali Lubani Road through Juju.<\/p>\n
Renowned soccer-pundit, Matthews Kimu Kamau, who is also a Wanderers fan, was among the victims of the assault.<\/p>\n
Speaking to MIJ Radio sports programme on Wednesday, Butao called for unity among their supporters.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are some fans who are like the team\u2019s officials because of their love and passion. It is very disheartening to learn that some fans descended on Kim; a person who is like a child to the team. We need to work together, seeking solutions to the problems which our team is facing,\u201d Butao said.<\/p>\n
Reacting to the apology, Kamau said it was discouraging to receive such treatment from fellow fans.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe issue is beyond juju beliefs. I love the team but I do not hold back in criticising it when things go wrong. Some people believe that I am a threat to their positions in the team, but I harbour no ambition to hold any position. I just love Wanderers. A number of us were harassed, but we have decided to let it go. I am just contemplating stopping watching Wanderers games,\u201d Kamau said.<\/p>\n
Wanderers\u2019 poor performance in the Super League and cup competitions has caused tension in the team.<\/p>\n
During the week, the Nomads Supporters Committee accused their Executive Committee of ignoring them.<\/p>\n
