Blantyre-based top cyclist Leonard Tsoyo on Saturday won the championship for Kia-Luwawa International Charity Mountain Bike Marathon Race which HTD sponsors.<\/p>\n
Tsoyo of Blantyre Cycling Club (BCC) clocked two hours four minutes and 45 seconds in the 53-kilometre race which took place from Luwawa Forest Lodge and around South Viphya Forest Reserve in Mzimba District.<\/p>\n
Deposed champion Steve Nazombe, also from BCC, finished on second place in two hours seven minutes and 45 seconds, with Blessings Kumwenda of Mzuzu Cycling Club in third place in two hours eight minutes and 40 seconds.<\/p>\n
Missi Kathumba, also from BCC, claimed fourth place, meaning that the Blantyre club won the Selmar Gassen Memorial Team Trophy for having its members winning top-three positions.<\/p>\n
In a press release, HTD described the race as very tight and exciting.<\/p>\n
\u201cBy half-way, Tsoyo had managed to draw out a good lead ahead of Nazombe and Kumwenda. This lead was maintained throughout the race but the other two elite cyclists were never far behind,\u201d reads the statement.<\/p>\n
Amy Stenoien finished first among ladies after clocking three hours 13 minutes 25 seconds, followed by Sibongire Shaba in three hours 17 minutes and 55 seconds.<\/p>\n
The race attracted 32 cyclists drawn from BCC, Lilongwe FOB\u2019S, Luwawa Forest Lodge and Mzuzu Cycling clubs. Only one cyclist did not complete the race after retiring.<\/p>\n
HTD representative presented prizes to the top-three winners of the men and ladies\u2019 sections.<\/p>\n
Race Director, George Wardlow, thanked all sponsors, particularly HTD, for making the 15th edition of the race successful.<\/p>\n
