{"id":67224,"date":"2018-06-21T09:52:47","date_gmt":"2018-06-21T07:52:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=67224"},"modified":"2018-06-21T09:52:47","modified_gmt":"2018-06-21T07:52:47","slug":"edward-makoka-makes-inroads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/06\/21\/edward-makoka-makes-inroads\/","title":{"rendered":"Edward Makoka makes inroads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is a hassle; establishing one\u2019s presence in a crowded and competitive music industry.<\/p>\n<p>And, as Edward Makoka\u2014 stage name Nycedo\u2014 can attest, \u201cthis becomes more difficult than usual in an industry like ours, where some structures have not been put in place and the burden of making it big is left in the hands of the artist\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In spite of challenges, though, the 22-year-old has been making inroads, thanks to \u201cpersistence and vision\u2014 for I know where I want to take my music, and myself, to\u201d, both in Malawi and abroad.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2013, when he produced the single \u2018Better Man\u2019 \u2013 which was produced by Don foxy], which continues to enjoy airplay in radio stations in the country\u2013 Nycedo has gone on to compose and record eight songs.<\/p>\n<p>They include \u2018Better Man\u2019 itself, a product of Step Up Records, \u2018Chikondi ndi Mumtima\u2019 produced by Trumale, \u2019Fire\u2019, \u2018Ndimafunitsitsa\u2019 and \u2018Usafooke\u2019, all of which are Sispence\u2019s productions, \u2018Davido Fall\u2019 produced by Rubrix, \u2018Vuto ndi Mtima\u2019 produced by Jay Emm and Gaffer and \u2018Ndatopa Kuganiza\u2019 produced by Gaffer of Audience Records.<\/p>\n<p>It is these songs that have seen him perform at venues such as Robin\u2019s Park as well as at public events in Blantyre City and Blantyre District.<\/p>\n<p>Nycedo said the secret behind his success is team work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI work with a range of producers because I want the music lover to be exposed to different touches of music. Even though most producers use like software, everyone is a genius in their own way and this can be observed in my music.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI also believe in collaborations. So far, I have done collaborations with other up-and-coming artists .I also learn from others. Dan Lu from Malawi and Roberto from Zambia inspire me. I strongly believe that I can take Malawi music somewhere. At the moment, I am thinking of the possibility of performing in countries such as Zambia to learn from artists in that country and improve my game,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p>At the moment, Nycedo has gone back to the studio, where he is working on two songs.<\/p>\n<p>Each song, he hopes, will be like a step that takes him deeper into the forest of local music.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It is a hassle; establishing one\u2019s presence in a crowded and competitive music industry.
