Former Malawi national football team tough midfielder Chancy Gondwe has urged domestic football authorities to put their house in order if the Flames are to, one day, qualify for the World Cup finals.<\/p>\n
The former Nyasa Big Bullets midfield kingpin, speaking on the sidelines of a friendly which Multichoice Malawi organised on Thursday in Ntcheu District, said Malawi football has stagnated and needs redemption.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe football administrators need to pull up their socks because, frankly speaking, we are not progressing. We cannot even qualify for Cosafa Cup [quarter-finals] and Africa Cup of Nations finals. If you cannot qualify for these two competitions, then how can you qualify for the World Cup?\u201d he wondered.<\/p>\n
Gondwe, who is supporting Senegal and Nigeria at the ongoing World Cup finals in Russia, drilled Blantyre media team which beat that of Lilongwe 4-3 during a friendly which Multichoice organised at Lake Valley Ground.<\/p>\n
Another former Flames star, Peterkins Kayira, drilled the Lilongwe team which was nicknamed the Flames.<\/p>\n
Kayira said he enjoyed coaching \u2018The Flames\u2019.<\/p>\n
The former Civil Sporting Club coach said Malawi has good players compared to those of yesteryears.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have many good players compared to our time but there is no discipline. Many players do not know why they are playing football. During our time, we were dedicated and it was unfortunate that we did not make it to the World Cup finals but we nearly made it,\u201d Kayira said.<\/p>\n
He thanked MultiChoice for selecting him and Gondwe to be part of the event out of all the legends in the country.<\/p>\n
