{"id":67030,"date":"2018-06-18T07:16:57","date_gmt":"2018-06-18T05:16:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=67030"},"modified":"2018-06-18T07:16:57","modified_gmt":"2018-06-18T05:16:57","slug":"heros-welcome-awaits-anisha-bashir","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/06\/18\/heros-welcome-awaits-anisha-bashir\/","title":{"rendered":"Hero\u2019s welcome awaits Anisha Bashir"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board is mobilising supporters to accord newly crowned Commonwealth Female Lightweight champion, Anisha Bashir, a hero\u2019s welcome at Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Bashir won her second belt after stopping Samantha \u2018SJ\u2019 Smith in the first-round at York Hall in London on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The board\u2019s president, Lonzoe \u2018Defector\u2019 Zimba, said Bashir had done Malawi proud after winning a second belt\u2014 six months after claiming African Boxing Union super lightweight title.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are really proud of Anisha. She is promoting Malawi\u2019s flag. Of course, her success cannot go without mentioning her Manager Craig Rousseau and Trainer Clyde Musonda. It is for this reason that we want to give Anisha a hearty welcome to inspire her to work extra hard,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Bashir has said she wants to vie for a World Boxing Council (WBC) title.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think I have done well and I deserve a WBC title shot which, I believe, I can win,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Bashir produced an electrifying performance to dazzle the aging Briton, Smith, who hit the canvas barely 17 seconds into the first-round at York Hall.<\/p>\n<p>Bashir, 20, has improved her record to eight straight knockout wins with five defeats whereas the record of Smith, 38, has dropped to two defeats and eight wins.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board is mobilising supporters to accord newly crowned Commonwealth Female Lightweight champion, Anisha Bashir, a hero\u2019s welcome at Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe Monday.
