The fact that the youth are becoming adventurous should be a reason to celebrate. So often, questions are asked whether the youth can assume leadership roles in communities where old ones have their own doubts.

So many initiatives that have received fair coverage have proved that the youth continue to explore new avenues which have become a platform to prove their relevance in the society.

Creative 4 Christ (C4C) is one of such initiatives that recognise the various talents the youth have in arts which can positively influence the behaviour of fellow youth while at the same time speaking to the older generation. The foundation of this youth movement is Jesus Christ and everything done is a celebration of such creativity guided by the teachings of Jesus Christ.

C4C’s Lead Coordinator Sheena Kamunga says the members are encouraged by the passion each one of them has shown while pursuing their mission to succeed.

“Everyone is motivated to seeing the vision go through, we all contribute our skills, new ideas, spirit and even finances,” she says.

C4C is a unique Christian movement of the youth from different churches. It offers a great high-class platform for youth to learn, teach and showcase their talents.

“Over the few months that it has operated, C4C has not only been a movement but a family. Reaching out to secondary schools, colleges and churches building friendships, teamwork, encouraging talents and most importantly showing that God gave us talents that others, not only ourselves, can benefit from,” Kamunga says.

She says C4C is the right through the many forms of arts.

“We will be able to show Malawi that the youth are able to create something lucrative and show that art is not just to be admired. Art must be sponsored and we will be able to use arts to inspire and teach other youths, and even adults, instead of the youth wandering aimlessly in the streets,” Kamunga says.

C4C member Priscilla Mhango says the movement aims at providing a safe haven to help each other grow spiritually and mentally as artists and entrepreneurs.

“Being part of C4C has helped young, talented people develop important personal and interpersonal skills. These include the ability to think critically and solve problems that we face in the movement and the assumption of personal and group responsibility.

“It has also helped young creative minds gain self-confidence and self-esteem. Young people with creative and alert minds contribute positively to the society much more than idle ones,” she says.

Mhango says the mission of C4C is to give better options to young people, inspire people to understand and support young talent, to inspire other talented young adults to take the same path, to inspire and change people with love not criticism, to have their own meeting place and to host some of the biggest Christian events.

“We believe the movement will influence the youth positively. We also realise that despite trying our best to make this movement successful, we need support from the corporate world and individuals who appreciate what we are doing or what we want to achieve,” she says.

The C4C movement is diversely gifted and will play a great role in the lives of many youths including an integral role in the arts sector. The theme of the movement, which will be launched on July 27 at Comesa Hall in Blantyre, is “Inside Out: Dare to be Clean.”

C4C movement comprises over 45 musicians, vocalists, photographers, poets, writers, ministers, listeners, dancers, stand-up comedians, teachers and inspirational speakers.

Although some members of the movement have already confirmed that they will perform during the launch, the organisers are yet to reveal the headlining acts for the launch.

A number of initiatives introduced by the youth are positively influencing their communities.
