{"id":66964,"date":"2018-06-16T07:21:34","date_gmt":"2018-06-16T05:21:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=66964"},"modified":"2018-06-16T07:21:34","modified_gmt":"2018-06-16T05:21:34","slug":"muslims-celebrate-eid-ui-fitr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/06\/16\/muslims-celebrate-eid-ui-fitr\/","title":{"rendered":"Muslims celebrate Eid-UI-Fitr"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Islamic Commission for Justice and Freedom has urged Muslims in the country to participate in the voter registration exercise in large numbers ahead of the 2019 elections.<\/p>\n<p>The registration exercise begins on June 26 and ends on November 10.<\/p>\n<p>The call was made during celebrations of Eid-Ul-Fitr\u2014at Kamuzu Upper Stadium in Blantyre marking the end of the Islamic Holy Month of Ramadan when Muslims fast for 30 days.<\/p>\n<p>One of the members of the commission, Sheikh Shaibu Lajasi said Malawians should not be shocked if they wake up one day to find people they did not want governing the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis could be the result if the people shy away from the voter registration and the actual 2019 tripartite election. Voting is the only way of changing the way things are run in the country for the better. We will be making a bold decision choosing a leader to rule us for the next five years. So the process begins with the voter registration,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Muslim Association of Malawi Secretary General Twaibu Lawe called for unity among Malawians.<\/p>\n<p>Lawe said politics of segregation in the aspects of religion, region or tribe has no space in the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of us must move forward. It is now us Muslims to show that we are united.
