Minister of Transport and Public Works, Jappie Mhango, has said the government has advised Mota Engil, contractor of a dual carriage road from Parliament roundabout to Area 49, to modify some sections of the road as one way of addressing concerns people have raised.<\/p>\n
This follows a debate on the structuring of the road, with some people criticising the shape and pavements of the road.<\/p>\n
One of the residents of the capital, Mercy Lidaka- Moyo, said the road is not as impressive as some of the roads constructed in the Southern African Development Community region.<\/p>\n
However, while saying that the ministry has advised the contractor to make some changes, Mhango asked Malawians to hold their patience.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have heard the concerns some Malawians have raised regarding the structuring of the road and the amount of taxpayers\u2019 money to be spent on the four-kilometre dual carriage road. Malawians should wait for the road to be finished. That is when they will appreciate it,\u201d Mhango said.<\/p>\n
He said the K6.5 billion project would change the face of Lilongwe in particular and the country in general.<\/p>\n
Roads Authority Chief Executive Officer, Emmanuel Matapa, said the road, which is being funded using locally generated resources, is on course although challenges abound.<\/p>\n
He said some service providers are unwilling to relocate.<\/p>\n
