Sworn rivals Tigresses and Thunder Queens are set to clash this afternoon with the hope of narrowing the gap with leaders and defending champions Diamonds in the race for the Rainbow Paints Southern Region Netball League championship.<\/p>\n
Tigresses and Thunder will renew hostilities at Blantyre Youth Centre where there will also be three other games.<\/p>\n
Both teams had a slow start to the season as Tigresses lost to Prison Sisters through a boardroom decision after the giants did not show up for the match.<\/p>\n
Tigresses have since appealed against the ruling.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, Thunder suffered a surprise defeat when they went down to Serenity Stars in the opening week.<\/p>\n
Tigresses also lost to Diamonds in a match which they missed the services of Sindie Simtowe-Msowoya and Linda Magombo-Munthali.<\/p>\n
Both teams realise the importance of the match in that defeat could see them drift further away from the title contention.<\/p>\n
Thunder Coach, Christina Mkwanda-Nsinji, said they were determined to win to remain in contention.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe know that it will be tough but my players are in good spirits and willing to get a good result. We are geared for the match,\u201d Mkwanda-Nsinji said.<\/p>\n
Tigresses Coach, Peace Chawinga-Kalua, said the encounter is a must win and her charges cannot afford any slip up.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are in a transitional process, with both youthful and senior players blending quite well,\u201d Chawinga-Kalua said.<\/p>\n
Thunder will be led by Captain Joanna Kachilika who can switch from defence to shooting whereas Emily Jere has been in good form upfront.<\/p>\n
Tigresses have a pool of good players but Beatrice Mpinganjira remains the hub of the team as she links the defence and attack.<\/p>\n
Serenity Stars will lock horns with Polytechnic Sisters whereas Diamonds will face Machinjiri Sisters.<\/p>\n
