{"id":66365,"date":"2018-06-06T05:35:40","date_gmt":"2018-06-06T03:35:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=66365"},"modified":"2018-06-06T05:35:41","modified_gmt":"2018-06-06T03:35:41","slug":"soldier-uses-gig-to-talk-politics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/06\/06\/soldier-uses-gig-to-talk-politics\/","title":{"rendered":"Soldier uses gig to talk politics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Soldier Lucius Banda on Sunday used the stage during a gig at B Square in Lumbazi, Dowa, to talk politics.<\/p>\n<p>The musician took time off to advise fans to be cautious when choosing political leaders in next year\u2019s tripartite elections, saying the country needs honest, corrupt free and development-cautious leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Soldier, a parliamentarian for Balaka North Constituency, said the country has suffered a lot; hence, it needs leaders who are dedicated.<\/p>\n<p>Lucius offered a perfect performance at B Square backed by his Zembani Band.<\/p>\n<p>Before Soldier jumped on stage, Zembani Band leader Sam Simakweli kicked off the show followed by \u2018Nalelo\u2019 creator Nepman.<\/p>\n<p>Lucius made sure he upped the tempo of the show continuing from where the two had left off as he dished out a number of his old and latest tracks that included \u2018Nthawi\u2019 and \u2018Mzimu wa Agadama\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>His performance lasted him close to three hours to the satisfaction of the audience.<\/p>\n<p>The climax of it all was when he performed \u2018Chako\u2019 from his latest album <em>Crimes, <\/em>which had people singing along.<\/p>\n<p>This is a song in which the musician condemns corrupt practices by most politicians, who, according to the musician, are unpatriotic and they do not love their country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the next three months, we are going to give you T-shirts, <em>zitenje <\/em>[party clothes] and whatsoever but I don\u2019t want you to make another mistake for the next five years. I hope you will not make a bad decision this time around,\u201d the musician said in between his performance.<\/p>\n<p>Soldier said in an interview later that it pains him to see voters making a mistake that lasts them five years.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, Soldier and Zembani Band were scheduled to perform at B Square Club from 2pm but, due to low turnout then, this forced the organisers to shift the show to the evening and this worked.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier before Soldier \u2019s performance, up-and-coming musician Prince Friday also performed some of Lucius\u2019 songs.<\/p>\n<p>There was also a moment during the show when female dancehall artist, Wendy Harawa, collaborated with Soldier in \u2018Wokondedwa\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>One of the patrons, Maureen John from Lilongwe, commended Soldier for a wonderful performance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think Lucius has matured with time and his song selection was very good as he read the audience very well.
