In bid to invigorate the morale of the team, Malawi Queens underwent psychological and focus session at the College of Medicine\u2019s High Performance Centre (HPC) Monday.<\/p>\n
The Queens coach Peace Chawinga-Kalua said the session was important before the team leaves for Sydney, Australia where they will take part in World Cup.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe focus lessons are quite important. We would have loved if we had been attending such sessions regularly to help us boost our morale to perform better at the World Cup. We have just requested HPC officials to help us in the interest of the nation,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Kalua revealed that the initial plan to partner the national netball team with the HPC received a cold reception.<\/p>\n
\u201cHPC is a sports science centre where you are able to concentrate on different aspect of the game. It is a pity that we didn\u2019t utilise it. In the absence of international matches, Queens could have utilised facilities and programmes offered at the HPC,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Queens\u2019 skipper Carol Mtukule-Ngwira said the sessions were important because they help players to relax.<\/p>\n
HPC general manager Augustine Banda yesterday said the session involved instilling unity in the squad.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe spent time doing a simple exercise of positive affirmation and talking about planning and setting goals and avoiding distractions. The HPC wanted to emphasise the importance of being one team and the need to focus on lifting and picking each other up,\u201d Banda said yesterday.<\/p>\n
Queens struggled to go into camp to prepare for the forthcoming cup set to throw-off on August 7.<\/p>\n
