{"id":66213,"date":"2018-06-03T05:36:30","date_gmt":"2018-06-03T03:36:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=66213"},"modified":"2018-06-03T05:37:19","modified_gmt":"2018-06-03T03:37:19","slug":"peter-mutharika-warns-chilima-movement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/06\/03\/peter-mutharika-warns-chilima-movement\/","title":{"rendered":"Peter Mutharika warns Chilima movement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/apm.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-66218\" src=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/apm-161x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"161\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/apm-161x300.jpg 161w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/apm.jpg 196w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 161px) 100vw, 161px\" \/><\/a>Callista Mutharika killed Bingu wa Mutharika when she was first lady, Secretary General of the Democratic Progressive Party, Grazeldar Jeffrey made the damning accusation Saturday during President Peter Mutharika\u2019s whistle stop tour of Thyolo, Mulanje.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCalista Mutharika is the one who killed President Bingu wa Mutharika,\u201d Jeffrey said much to shock of everyone around.<\/p>\n<p>Late Bingu, the elder brother to the incumbent President, died from a heart attack after he collapsed in his office at State House in Lilongwe in April, 2012.<\/p>\n<p>The 78-year-old Bingu was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Press conference that took place in Lilongwe this week by Masangwi, Kaliati, Kalindo and others are the same people that wanted money from you sir,\u201d Jeffrey said.<\/p>\n<p>The former first lady Saturday found it difficult to fathom the reason for Jeffrey\u2019s accusation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t know that people would play this cheap politics but I won\u2019t sink to her level\u2026that\u2019s Jeffrey\u2019s character,\u201d Callista said.<\/p>\n<p>Former Press Secretary to the late President, Chikumbutso Mtumodzi, expressed shock that the DPP Secretary General made such pronouncements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe whole world knows that there was a commission of inquiry and the findings never came close to what Jeffrey is saying\u2026it\u2019s very unfair to accuse the former first lady,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>President Mutharika took the podium from Jeffrey and tore into the Chilima movement warning them of stern action if they continued their political shenanigans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMukapitiriza zimene mukupangazo, ndidzakufinyani, ndidzakunyenyanyenyani\u2026\u201d Mutharika warned.<\/p>\n<p>Mutharika said that he refused to give money to Masangwi, Kaliati and others. \u201cThat\u2019s the reason why they are doing this against me,\u201d Mutharika said before proceeding to Luchenza.<\/p>\n<p>The President sounding fired up, challenged Chilima saying he will defeat him at the convention.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will meet at the convention,\u201d he said. Those who want to leave the party should leave the party and stop confusing \u201cour DPP\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Mulanje and Thyolo are under siege from the Chilima faction.<\/p>\n<p>Over the last few weeks, the movement has been mobilizing grassroot support in the two districts calling for a convention.
