{"id":66183,"date":"2018-06-02T14:57:00","date_gmt":"2018-06-02T12:57:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=66183"},"modified":"2018-06-02T14:57:01","modified_gmt":"2018-06-02T12:57:01","slug":"saulos-chilima-movement-goes-door-to-door","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/06\/02\/saulos-chilima-movement-goes-door-to-door\/","title":{"rendered":"Saulos Chilima movement goes door-to-door"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Saulos Chilima Movement, a grouping which is pushing for Vice President Saulos \u00a0Chilima\u2019s candidature for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in the forthcoming elections has revealed that it is using door- to-door strategy to garner support.<\/p>\n<p>The movement\u2019s National Deputy Director of Women Loyce Mponda and Director of Recruitment Wyson Sumayili disclosed that their Northern Region leaders are meeting people in their offices, markets and other places to sell Chilima.<\/p>\n<p>Mponda and Sumayili said this on Wednesday after they, together with other members of the regional committee, finalised a two week tour of the Northern Region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wanted to get a clearer picture from the ground on how popular [President Peter] Mutharika is against Chilima. We have moved in the Northern Region and we have met all classes of people who have assured us that they are behind Chilima.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are using door- to- door strategy of meeting these people we are meeting them even in their offices and business places because we believe these are the right people who can give us the real political outlook for the region. Now, we are proving wrong those who are against Chilima\u2019s candidature, we are unveiling DPP heavy weights into our camp soon,\u201d Mponda said.<\/p>\n<p>When asked why they continue operating on the ground despite reports that Chilima is holdings secret meetings with some Mutharika\u2019s favourites, Sumayili said their meetings will not yield anything saying Chilima\u2019s position is clear and that he will be on the ballot come 2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are not engaging a reverse gear. We are set for Chilima to be DPP torch bearer. This means at all cost, he must be on the ballot come 2019 elections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are ready and as the youth, we do not have fears. We will use all means to make sure Chilima becomes the president of the country in 2019,\u201d Sumayili said.<\/p>\n<p>But DPP Regional Governor for the Northern Region Kenneth Sanga recently said the north is for Mutharika.<\/p>\n<p>Recently Chairperson of Chilima Movement in the Northern Region Afiki Mbewe disclosed that their movement is using DPP structures at both constituency and regional level in propping Chilima\u2019s candidature.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Saulos Chilima Movement, a grouping which is pushing for Vice President Saulos \u00a0Chilima\u2019s candidature for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in the forthcoming elections has revealed that it is using door- to-door strategy to garner support.
