{"id":66102,"date":"2018-05-31T10:27:36","date_gmt":"2018-05-31T08:27:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=66102"},"modified":"2018-05-31T10:27:37","modified_gmt":"2018-05-31T08:27:37","slug":"blantyre-city-council-us-city-sign-memorandum-of-understanding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/05\/31\/blantyre-city-council-us-city-sign-memorandum-of-understanding\/","title":{"rendered":"Blantyre City Council, US city sign Memorandum of Understanding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Blantyre City Council Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the City of Norfolk, Nebraska, the United States (US).<\/p>\n<p>City fathers of Blantyre and Norfolk put pen to paper at Civic Offices in Blantyre.<\/p>\n<p>It is the first time for the US city to enter into an agreement with a city in Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Blantyre City Mayor, Wild Ndipo, said the MoU will promote the sharing of knowledge and skills in Blantyre City in particular and Malawi in general.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNorfolk may be a small city but it is advanced when it comes to the use of agricultural technologies. So, Malawi will benefit from it,\u201d Ndipo said.<\/p>\n<p>Ndipo added that Norfolk has a lot of colleges that will offer Malawians opportunities to further their education.<\/p>\n<p>Norfolk City Mayor, Josh Moenning, said the MoU will strengthen ties between Malawi and the US.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMoreover, Norfolk will benefit from cultural exchange visits,\u201d Moenning said.<\/p>\n<p>President and founder of Norfolk Schools in Malawi, Joe Mtika, said Malawi started benefitting from Norfolk a long time ago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a number of students studying in various colleges in Norfolk and this MoU will help increase the number of Malawian students studying in Norfolk,\u201d Mtika said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Blantyre City Council Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the City of Norfolk, Nebraska, the United States (US).
