{"id":66048,"date":"2018-05-30T08:57:27","date_gmt":"2018-05-30T06:57:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=66048"},"modified":"2018-05-30T08:57:29","modified_gmt":"2018-05-30T06:57:29","slug":"ntcheu-district-council-in-anti-gender-based-violence-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/05\/30\/ntcheu-district-council-in-anti-gender-based-violence-campaign\/","title":{"rendered":"Ntcheu District Council in anti- gender-based violence campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ntcheu District Council has intensified the campaign against gender-based violence (GBV) as cases of violence continue to rise in the Central Region district.<\/p>\n<p>This follows reports that District Social Welfare officials register close to 30 cases of abuse against women and children monthly.<\/p>\n<p>In view of this, council officials, under Primary Justice Project, are visiting affected areas to sensitise community members to the importance of reporting such cases.<\/p>\n<p>The council\u2019s Primary Justice Coordinator, Mike Makalande, said Tuesday that women and children suffer in silence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDue to cultural factors, our women and children are failing to report cases of abuse to relevant authorities for action. We, therefore, believe that, through the awareness campaign, victims will be coming out and reporting such cases to relevant authorities.<\/p>\n<p>Traditional Authority (T\/A) Kwataine said progress is being made in curbing cases of GBV.<\/p>\n<p>Kwataine said there has been \u201ca slight reduction\u201d of GBV cases.<\/p>\n<p>With support from UKAid through Catholic Commission of Justice and Peace under the Archdiocese of Lilongwe, the project targets six T\/As of Chakhumbira, Champiti, Masasa, Kwataine, Phambala and Ganya.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ntcheu District Council has intensified the campaign against gender-based violence (GBV) as cases of violence continue to rise in the Central Region district.
