{"id":66011,"date":"2018-05-30T06:36:04","date_gmt":"2018-05-30T04:36:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=66011"},"modified":"2018-05-30T06:36:04","modified_gmt":"2018-05-30T04:36:04","slug":"piksy-sets-up-prison-show","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/05\/30\/piksy-sets-up-prison-show\/","title":{"rendered":"Piksy sets up prison show"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Piksy has, on June 9, organised a show at Chichiri Prison in Blantyre to give inmates a chance to enjoy his music.<\/p>\n<p>Piksy\u2019s manager, Wisdom Phanga, said the show has been organised in partnership with Convoy of Hope Foundation Ministry, which supports the needy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter the performances and the interaction, Convoy of Hope will share the word of God with the inmates and then donate various items to them,\u201d Phanga said.<\/p>\n<p>Gloria Makunje, a representative of Convoy of Hope Foundation Ministry, said inmates need love and care.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone needs love; God loves us all despite our shortfalls. Not everyone who is in prison is a sinner and even sinners need love,\u201d Makunje said.<\/p>\n<p>She added that the ministry is interested in encourage inmates to change and become good citizens once they come out of prison.<\/p>\n<p>Makunje said the ministry is involved in several projects, citing construction of a shelter at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will be handing over the shelter very soon, \u201cshe said.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from Piksy, some of the acts set to perform at Chichiri Prison are Hyphen, formerly known as Young Kay, and gospel trio Authenga Atatu.<\/p>\n<p>Hyphen said he is happy to be part of the show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPiksy and I were born in June, same week, and we have planned a couple of activities around our birthday. We saw it fit to spend time with people who are usually sidelined in the community, \u201d Hyphen said.<\/p>\n<p>He said, through the show, they will take time to encourage inmates to keep their spirits high for them [inmates] to be in good shape when they are released.<\/p>\n<p>Piksy said this would be the first time for him to share a light moment with inmates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI perform to people who pay to attend shows or when organisations give me something [money] so that I can perform. The difference now is that I am doing this using my own resources and no one is paying me to do it,\u201d Piksy said.<\/p>\n<p>He called on fellow artists to hold such performances as part of giving back to the community for the support.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cActually, every artist who is willing to join us is free to do so,\u201d the \u2018Unamata\u2019 star said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that Chichiri Prison is the starting point as, financial resources permitting, they intend to pay visits to prisons such as Maula and Zomba.<\/p>\n<p>Piksy and Hyphen are also set to perform at Blue Elephant in Blantyre and Levels in Zomba on June 8 and 9, respectively, with part of the proceeds set to be donated to Chikondi Disabilities and Orphan Care Centre.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Piksy has, on June 9, organised a show at Chichiri Prison in Blantyre to give inmates a chance to enjoy his music.
