{"id":65960,"date":"2018-05-29T06:25:29","date_gmt":"2018-05-29T04:25:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=65960"},"modified":"2018-05-29T06:25:29","modified_gmt":"2018-05-29T04:25:29","slug":"petroleum-importers-limited-donates-to-soche-hill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/05\/29\/petroleum-importers-limited-donates-to-soche-hill\/","title":{"rendered":"Petroleum Importers Limited donates to Soche Hill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Petroleum Importers Limited (PIL) on Friday donated textbooks worth K1.5 million to Soche Hill Secondary School in Blantyre.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking when handing over the books, PIL Finance and Administration Manager, Kambani Mchiela, said the firm is keen to support government in ensuring equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a responsible corporate citizen, PIL would like to reiterate its commitment towards supporting government\u2019s efforts in improving the quality of education in the country. This is why PIL is humbled to donate books to different government schools,\u201d Mchiela said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that PIL appreciates that most public schools in Malawi lack adequate learning facilities and materials, hence the support.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithout quality education, the country cannot progress in any way, so there is need for each learner to have good learning materials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur corporate social responsibility programme is actively engaged in advocating quality education to ensure that the learning environment for our students is conducive to transform them into responsible citizens,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>PIL has this year set aside K50 million to support education and health sectors. So far, the firm has donated learning materials to Chilenje Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) in Kasungu, Chisu CDSS in Nkhata Bay, Chileka CDSS in Lilongwe and Soche Hill.<\/p>\n<p>South-West Division Education Manager, Henry Gwede, thanked PIL for the assistance which, he said, would go a long way in improving teaching and learning at the school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are grateful to PIL for the books because it will enhance the teaching and learning process, especially for the new curriculum which government is implementing,\u201d Gwede said.<\/p>\n<p>Soche Hill Secondary School Alumini Chairperson, Wesley Mataka, urged the students to read the books so that they pass with flying colours in national examinations.<\/p>\n<p>Soche Hill Secondary School was opened in 1964 and has an enrolment of over 500 students.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Petroleum Importers Limited (PIL) on Friday donated textbooks worth K1.5 million to Soche Hill Secondary School in Blantyre.
