Central Zone Basketball League (Cezobal) reigning champions, Bravehearts men\u2019s and Bravehearts Ladies, have stepped up preparations for this year\u2019s Kingdom eSwatini [formerly Swaziland ] Invitational Tournament slated for June 22-24 in Mbabane.<\/p>\n
The two teams will, for the first time, take part in the tournament, having pulled out last year at the eleventh hour.<\/p>\n
Bravehearts patron, Griffin Kalua, said the two teams have confirmed their participation in the tournament.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur preparations are on track and we are sure that we will do well. We are going there to compete and not as tourists. We have a very good track record when it comes to participating in international games and we want to maintain it,\u201d Kalua, who also doubles as a coach for the men\u2019s team, said.<\/p>\n
Bravehearts men\u2019s came closest to winning the 2018 Zambia Invitational Tournament when they finished as runners-up to giants Matero Magic.<\/p>\n
Bravehearts Ladies official, Lusungu Banda, said preparations are progressing well ahead of the trip. The two teams are expected to leave for eSwatini on June 20.<\/p>\n
Central Knights and Lady Dynamites are some of the local teams that expressed interest in taking part in the tournament.<\/p>\n
But Knights Head of Marketing, Emmanuel Phiri, said the team has pulled out of the event as a cost-cutting measure.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt t h e moment, we are focusing on building our basketball court. So we are not going to Swaziland. Hopefully, we will participate in the event next year,\u201d Phiri said.<\/p>\n
Dynamites could not be reached for comment.<\/p>\n
For the past two seasons, Knights have been travelling to eSwatini for the competition with little success. Cougars also took part in last year\u2019s tournament.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
