{"id":65700,"date":"2018-05-24T09:59:29","date_gmt":"2018-05-24T07:59:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=65700"},"modified":"2018-05-24T09:59:29","modified_gmt":"2018-05-24T07:59:29","slug":"marep-phase-8-lights-up-chitipa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/05\/24\/marep-phase-8-lights-up-chitipa\/","title":{"rendered":"Marep Phase 8 lights up Chitipa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>People in the area of Senior Chief Mwaulambya in Chitipa District finally have access to hydro-electric power, courtesy of the Malawi Rural Electrification Programme (Marep) 8.<\/p>\n<p>During the launch of the programme at Lwakwa Primary School Ground in the district, Minister of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining, Aggrey Masi, said switching on power is one of the government\u2019s initiatives aimed at fostering development.<\/p>\n<p>Masi said this marks the beginning of a new era of socio-economic activities in Chitipa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government wants to make sure that many rural and peri-urban communities have uninterrupted supply of power in their homes and at business premises\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>On his part, Mwaulambya thanked the government for the gesture, saying it would stop his subjects from crossing Songwe River in search of energy sources.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Ministry of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining, Marep 8 aims at electrifying a total of 336 sites across the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>People in the area of Senior Chief Mwaulambya in Chitipa District finally have access to hydro-electric power, courtesy of the Malawi Rural Electrification Programme (Marep) 8.
