Dwangwa United players have, since Tuesday, been refusing to report for training in protest over unpaid dues.<\/p>\n
The team\u2019s Captain, Gilbert Nkhokwe, confirmed that they were boycotting training because they have gone two months unpaid.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut we will meet the Executive Committee later this morning [yesterday], so I will be able to talk more after the meeting,\u201d Kankhokwe said.<\/p>\n
Dwangwa Chairperson, Anold Zenizeni, blamed the players for not understanding the team\u2019s financial position.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is true that we have not paid them their salaries for April but the boycott is not understandable.<\/p>\n
\u201cOther teams go several months without getting anything but we are talking about April and this month has not even ended. We don\u2019t have money because our sponsors, Illovo, are yet to fund us because their financial year begins in September,\u201d Zenizeni said.<\/p>\n
The boycott is likely to affect the team\u2019s preparations for their home TNM Super League game against Nchalo United on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Dwangwa are struggling this the season as they lie on 13th position, with four points, on the log table after registering a win, a draw and two loses.<\/p>\n
Zenizeni has since pleaded with the players to resume training.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe understand that someone is telling them lies that we have received K7 million from Illovo,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Illovo has, in the past two seasons, assisted Dwangwa with an annual sponsorship of K30 million but the team struggles as the company\u2019s financial year is not in harmony with the Super League calendar.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
