{"id":65320,"date":"2018-05-16T09:13:15","date_gmt":"2018-05-16T07:13:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=65320"},"modified":"2018-05-16T09:13:15","modified_gmt":"2018-05-16T07:13:15","slug":"chileka-airport-police-arrest-woman-for-drug-trafficking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/05\/16\/chileka-airport-police-arrest-woman-for-drug-trafficking\/","title":{"rendered":"Chileka airport police arrest woman for drug trafficking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Police at Chileka International Airport in Blantyre have arrested a 34-year-old Malawian, Velian Duwa, after she was found in possession of a suspected illicit drug called ephedrine.<\/p>\n<p>The arrest comes barely a week after a Malawian young man aged 26 died in Brazil in what was suspected to be a drug deal mission gone wrong.<\/p>\n<p>Airport spokesperson, Chitonde Lee, said the suspect was coming from India via Addis-Ababa in Ethiopia to Malawi via Chileka International Airport.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile in the arrivals hall, police officers manning the lounge demanded to check contests of the two bags she was carrying and found motor vehicle head gaskets in both bags. When they demanded to dismantle the gasket, they found a whitish looking substances inside,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Lee said Duwa has since been charged with two accounts and will appear in court once police investigations are over.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe has been charged with possession of a suspected illicit drug (ephredrine) without permission from the minister and illegal importation of the suspected dangerous drug,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Duwa is from Kankhani Village, Traditional Authority Kamenyagwaza, in Dedza District.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Police at Chileka International Airport in Blantyre have arrested a 34-year-old Malawian, Velian Duwa, after she was found in possession of a suspected illicit drug called ephedrine.
