{"id":65318,"date":"2018-05-16T09:06:08","date_gmt":"2018-05-16T07:06:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=65318"},"modified":"2018-05-16T09:06:09","modified_gmt":"2018-05-16T07:06:09","slug":"patrick-mabedi-ready-for-kaizer-chiefs-hot-seat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/05\/16\/patrick-mabedi-ready-for-kaizer-chiefs-hot-seat\/","title":{"rendered":"Patrick Mabedi ready for Kaizer Chiefs hot seat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Malawi\u2019s Flames assistant coach, Patrick Mabedi, has said he is ready to jump at an opportunity to coach South Africa\u2019s Kaizer Chiefs on a permanent basis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course, I would be interested,\u201d the former Flames defender told South Africa\u2019s <em>Kick- Off.com <\/em>yesterday. \u201cWhen you are there, you cannot say no if you are given something.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mabedi, who served as the Flames\u2019 assistant coach in 2013 and 2015 under Eddingtone Ng\u2019onamo and Nsanzurwimo Ramadhan, respectively, has put himself in contention for the tough job in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>After stepping in for his fired boss, Steve Komphela, the former Flames skipper posted two wins and one loss as Chiefs secured Confederation Cup slot after finishing on third place on the South Africa Premier Soccer League log table.<\/p>\n<p>Mabedi, who is highly-qualified and also impressed while coaching First Division side, Cape Town All Stars, in South Africa, believes that he has amassed enough experience. He was also caretaker coach for Moroka Swallows.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was the assistant coach, and I have been the interim coach for the last few games. My objective was to finish well in the last two games and I think I did that,\u201d he is quoted as saying.<\/p>\n<p>The former Flames defender has since earned praises from Muhsin Ertugral, his former boss at Mpumalanga Black Aces in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Ertugral, who coaches Ajax Cape Town, praised Mabedi before playing against Chiefs on Saturday in the final game of the season in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Chiefs, the team Ertugral managed when Mabedi was a player, won the game 2-1.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a player, I loved Patrick. With the success I had at Chiefs, Patrick was always the cornerstone of my team. He was an explosive player; you could dribble past him, but he would get back again. He was also tactically quite advanced, which is why I believe in his coaching abilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can see he has already changed the way Chiefs play, in that they now use a back-four. He knows how to defend, and he knows how I think,\u201d the Turkish coach told <em>www.iol.co.za <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the Flames Coach, Ronny van Geneugden, wanted to make Mabedi his assistant but Chiefs refused to release him. He is contracted to the Soweto giants until next year.
