Lilongwe-based all female band is set to tour Southern Africa.<\/p>\n
The group\u2019s manager, Mphatso Chidothe, said Tuesday they are serious with the tour which will among others, take them to Mozambique South Africa and Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n
In preparation for the tour, the all girls band has organised some shows to raise funds.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are ready to tour Southern Africa and we have sourced gigs in Zimbabwe, Mozambique and South Africa in August this year,\u201d Chidothe said.<\/p>\n
She however, indicated that they have a shortfall on mobility cost.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo we have organised a show on May 25 at Story Club in Lilongwe where as a group we will also launch our EP of six songs and a music video to raise transportation costs,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Chidothe said during the May 25 show they also plan to auction different merchandise as well.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe actually have already started selling the tickets for the show and so we call upon people to support us. The entry fee for this show is K10,000 VIP and K5,000 standard. We will perform together with Move International Band,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Chidothe said the tour is very significant for the music industry in the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Daughters Band will not only carry the Malawian flag but they will also demonstrate to Africa and the world that women have the equal potential to thrive in the creative industry. Girls can do so much more,\u201d Chidothe said.<\/p>\n
The group which has performed in different platforms including Sand Music and Tumaini festivals was formed in 2016 with Music Crossroads Malawi initiating the move.<\/p>\n
Chidothe said the band was established to empower girls and women and that they too can conquer the stage and attain their dreams in everyday life.<\/p>\n
The band is made up of five members and they include Phalyce Kumdana (bassist), Chikondi Machesi (drummer), Chifundo Sande (vocalist), Prosperia Ng\u2019oma (lead guitarist) and Grace Gama (keyboardist).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
