Leader of Opposition in Parliament and President of the Malawi Congress Party, Lazarus Chakwera, has described President Peter Mutharika\u2019s State of the Nation Address (SONA) as a sweet dream which is detached from reality.<\/p>\n
Chakwera said Mutharika spent almost an hour in Parliament, describing an imaginary state and projecting a series of manifesto promises which, in Chakwera\u2019s view, is not what Malawians are looking for.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are a lot of contradictions in the way the nation\u2019s status as of now is being described, we are told that the economy has stabilised and we are going some place but as we speak, the Ministry of Labour has been notified that most companies now are downsizing.<\/p>\n
\u201cNothing has been stated to assure the farmer out there that what happened last year will not happen again and that they will have ready markets for their produce and to empower the people to feed themselves, not telling them you will not die of hunger we will feed you,\u201d Chakwera said.<\/p>\n
He then claimed that Mutharika had acknowledged that his government is corrupt.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhy would the Head of State say no more Kayelekera? Is that an admission that Kayelekera type concessions are done at the State House\u2026because the professionals were never involved,\u201d Chakwera said.<\/p>\n
Concurring with him, leader of the People\u2019s Party in Parliament, Ralph Mhone said that the President did not give any hope that the country could win the fight against corruption anytime soon.<\/p>\n
\u201cSadly, the President did not offer us any glimpse of hope on how corruption is going to be tackled, he didn\u2019t give us statistics of what this government has done since he came into power in 2014 because when our president Joyce Banda was in power, she actually ordered the arrest of all the people that were involved in corruption,\u201d Mhone said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
