{"id":64670,"date":"2018-05-01T06:21:39","date_gmt":"2018-05-01T04:21:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=64670"},"modified":"2018-05-01T06:21:39","modified_gmt":"2018-05-01T04:21:39","slug":"willington-mwangonde-wins-mr-karonga","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/05\/01\/willington-mwangonde-wins-mr-karonga\/","title":{"rendered":"Willington Mwangonde wins Mr Karonga"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It was a typical case of like father like son when Wellington, son to former Mr Malawi, Isaac Mwangonde, was crowned Mr Karonga on Saturday during a competition held at the Northern Region district\u2019s Museum Hall.<\/p>\n<p>Wellington, popularly known as the Bulldozer, defeated 15 contestants to win the championship.<\/p>\n<p>Wellington said he was not surprised by the victory because he trained hard.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis should send a stern warning to the incumbent Mr Malawi that his position is shaken. I finished on position two in Mr Karonga competition in 2015 and on position three in Ulaya Classics competition in 2017. Now that I am Mr Karonga, what can stop me from claiming Mr Malawi?\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Jacob Mwangonde finished on second position whereas Lupakisho Katana came third.<\/p>\n<p>Judges for the event were Mosted Simwela, Clement Sichali and Dan Mwakainga who was the main sponsor after pumping in K550,000.<\/p>\n<p>Mwakainga thanked the participants for their commitment towards the event which attracted estimated 300 spectators.<\/p>\n<p>Other sponsors included Frank Mwenefumbo, Charles Ulaya and Eliot Mussa, who contributed K50,000 each whereas Mangasulwa Mwangonde donated K20,000.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It was a typical case of like father like son when Wellington, son to former Mr Malawi, Isaac Mwangonde, was crowned Mr Karonga on Saturday during a competition held at the Northern Region district\u2019s Museum Hall.
