Lilongwe-based group Madalitso Band, the duo of Yobu Maligwa and Yosefe Kalekeni leave the country Wednesday to perform at this year\u2019s Harare International Festival of the Arts (Hifa) in Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n
This is one of the top festivals in Zimbabwe and brings together artists from different countries.<\/p>\n
The festival starts Tuesday and ends on May 6.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe band is leaving on Wednesday (tomorrow) and they will perform on Thursday,\u201d Emmanuel Kamwenje, one of the co-managers said.<\/p>\n
He said Madalitso Band will leave by bus.<\/p>\n
The group over the weekend had a warm-up show at Grittah\u2019s Camp in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe people at Grittah\u2019s Camp turned up late but it was good with other supporting acts such as Mtendere Dance Troupe and Rosha,\u201d Kamwenje said.<\/p>\n
The band has made progress as it is also set to perform at The Roskilde Festival in June this year.<\/p>\n
Roskilde is a Danish music festival held annually south of Roskilde and it is one of the largest music festivals in Europe and the largest in Northern Europe.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs we indicated earlier this will be a busy year for Madalitso Band. And once they come back from Hifa, they will have a month and half preparing for the European tour,\u201d Kamwenje said.<\/p>\n
Madalitso Band last year also performed at Sauti za Busara Festival in Tanzania.<\/p>\n
\u201cHifa is a top festival and for them to get a slot is something special. It\u2019s all about representing Malawi and showing the best of the country\u2019s music,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Madalitso Band has one album to their credit titled Fungo La Nyemba<\/em>.<\/p>\n Kamwenje also said they have festivals in France which are confirmed but they will announce more news later.<\/p>\n And the pot of glory for festivals has also not eluded the group in the country as the duo are also set to perform at this year\u2019s Lake of Stars Festival to be held at Kabumba Hotel in Salima from September 28 to September 30.<\/p>\n Madalitso Band is also geared to perform at Ntchisi Forest Festival.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Lilongwe-based group Madalitso Band, the duo of Yobu Maligwa and Yosefe Kalekeni leave the country Wednesday to perform at this year\u2019s Harare International Festival of the Arts (Hifa) in Zimbabwe.
