Golf Union of Malawi president Gabriel Kambale underlined his credentials after winning the Masm Ballpool at Blantyre Sports Club (BSC) on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

In men\u2019s section, Kambale posted 21 points to emerge champion and was followed by Dr. Adril Guarino on second with 20 stable-ford points.<\/p>\n

Guarino counted out budding golfer Gilton Chiwawula who finished third after collecting the same number of points.<\/p>\n

In ladies section, Teri Amaru emerged victorious after posting 14 points counting out Roza Mbilizi who settled for second position.<\/p>\n

In individual awards, Justice John Katsala won the nearest to the pin on hole 12 while Medson Kalambule the longest drive on hit hole 13.<\/p>\n

Hilda Wheelright made the longest drive on hole number 17 in ladies section.<\/p>\n

The men\u2019s champion, Kambale, said he was delighted to win the competition.<\/p>\n

\u201cI started playing well on hole number one and I just kept the fire burning. When I was on hole number six, which is also hole number 15, I realized that I could win.<\/p>\n

Kambale, while hailing his playing partners, said it was not easy to win but as a serious golfer he took advantage of his form.<\/p>\n

Medical Aid Society of Malawi (Masm) chief commercial officer, Andrew Ngomwa, said they felt it necessary to sponsor the golf competition because Masm \u201cwas about people and for the people\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost of golf players are our members. We felt we needed to step in because the club [BSC] was struggling without sponsorship,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Ngomwa also urged golfers and the nation at large to embrace Masm services.<\/p>\n

BSC golf captain, John Gift Mwakhwawa, said the turnout was impressive after 42 golfers took part in men\u2019s section while four participated in women\u2019s section.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe thank Masm for supporting ballpool. It is not easy to get sponsorships these days,\u201d he said<\/p>\n
