Silver Strikers have become latest victims of Africa\u2019s age-cheating football cancer after discovering that Samuel Siaw\u2014 their Ghanaian import they are unable to feature\u2014 is not a minor after all.<\/p>\n
Now, Silver are dispatching back home the striker Siaw as he is still ineligible to play competitively this season because his passport indicates that he is aged 17, although he is 22.<\/p>\n
Siaw\u2019s passport indicates that he was born on February 10 1998, but he has since admitted to the Bankers that he was born on February 10, 1993, Silver acting general secretary Fred Kalonga confirmed yesterday.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe came last October when he was 16 and he turned 17 in February. He can only play for us next year when he turns18. We tried to sign him but age is a limiting factor, so he will be travelling back next week to have his passport corrected. He admitted that football authorities in Ghana changed his age when travelling to Switzerland for a youth tournament,\u201d Kalonga explained.<\/p>\n
The prospect of Siaw\u2014a skillful forward who can also play off the wings\u2014 returning to help rescue Silver\u2019s TNM Super League campaign that has seen them finish the first round eighth on 20 points, is minimal.<\/p>\n
Yet, during his 10-month stay, Silver have, among others, spent on his accommodation, weekly training allowance of K2,000 per week and a monthly fee for \u2018air time\u2019.<\/p>\n
Fifa international transfers of players are only permitted from the age of18 with some three exceptions that \u201cthe player\u2019s parents move to the country in which the new club is located for reasons not linked to football.\u201d<\/p>\n
Siaw on Thursday admitted he was waiting for Silver to buy him a return air ticket as he was frustrated to just train.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we were about to travel to Switzerland with an Under-20 team for a Premier League team [name withheld], the officials said if we wanted to go, those aged 18 or 17 should indicate 15. I just accepted. This was done by officials in Ghana. Now, I want to see if I can get a new passport with my correct age,\u201d Siaw admitted.<\/p>\n
FAM facility and transfer matching system manager Casper Jangale said they can, with some pre-conditions, entertain Siaw\u2019s registration this season.<\/p>\n
