Alliance for Democracy (Aford) president Enock Chihana and the party Secretary General Christopher Ritchie have been involved in a rather unfriendly phone conversation over the leadership wrangles within the party.<\/p>\n
In a leaked recording of the phone call, Chihana told Ritchie and other people who took the party matters to court recently to pay him K17 million.<\/p>\n
But Chihana Tuesday downplayed the contents of the recording saying it is normal for leaders within the same party to disagree on issues describing the leaked call as just a private talk between the party president and the Secretary General.<\/p>\n
\u201cEven in a family, it is normal for a husband and wife to disagree but after sometime you can talk again,\u201d Chihana said.<\/p>\n
In the conversation, Chihana accuses Ritchie of crossing the party lines by supporting candidates and taking the party he is the Secretary General to court.<\/p>\n
The Aford president also wanted to know the reason Ritchie continues holding the position of Secretary General in the party he sued.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn politics there are no circumstances\u2026.. what you have to know Ritchie is that you can go to any court but politics is paramount. It is politics that creates a system but you don\u2019t know this,\u201d Chihana said amidst Ritchie\u2019s interjections.<\/p>\n
He accused Ritchie of thinking that what him and his few other friends have agreed is final saying he thought the Secretary General was politically mature but it seems he is becoming mad.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou can\u2019t even reason the way it is and you know I made you to be the Secretary General, I did\u2026\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Ritchie, however, thanked Malawians for appointing him to the position of the party Secretary General based on the previous experience and Chihana responded by challenging that Ritchie will have a tough time at the April 28 convention.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat is what I am saying. Just confirm that convention is on. Whether I lose, me as Ritchie, I will not even be offended if Malawi doesn\u2019t choose me again,\u201d Ritchie said.<\/p>\n
He said if Chihana blocks the convention it will be a humiliation on the part of Aford president.<\/p>\n
Chihana then said he has already instructed his lawyers to claim his K17 million from Ritchie and colleagues but Ritchie said the Aford president needs to justify the amount of money he is claiming.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is the last time we are talking to each other. We will meet at the convention,\u201d Chihana said.<\/p>\n
The two have not been in good terms since the time Ritchie, together with, Dan Msowoya, Owen Mumba and Earnest Kanyenda sued Chihana over the composition of the party National Executive Committee and failure to hold convention after expiry of the current Nec mandate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
