Democratic Progressive Party Mangochi District Campaign Director, Wellington Mangulenje, has resigned from the party following the party\u2019s Eastern Regional Governor Julius Pipe\u2019s verbal attack on Muslims.<\/p>\n
In a letter addressed to Pipe, Secretary General of the party and DPP\u2019s District Governor, Mangulenje said he was saddened by the remarks made against Muslims.<\/p>\n
Mangulenje said he is saddened by the remarks Pipe made at one of the rallies that voting for Malawi Congress Party with Sidik Mia, a Muslim, is like voting for a war in 2019.<\/p>\n
The remarks, Mangulenje said, are a clear departure from the spirit of togetherness irrespective of tribal, racial, political or religious differences which the late Bingu wa Mutharika championed.<\/p>\n
\u201cl recall all that unity and togetherness is what our late father Prof Bingu Wa Mutharika used to preach and advocate through his favourite song of \u2018 Tiyende Pamodzi ndi Mtima Umodzi\u2019\u2026,\u201d reads the letter in part.<\/p>\n
Mangulenje said he cannot be party to the seeds of hatred being sown by the party\u2019s senior officials like the Eastern Regional Governor Julius Pipe.<\/p>\n
\u201cMr. Regional Governor Sir, wherever our political opponents are, they must be rejoicing with your divisive utterances because, myself, a true young liberal democrat, believes that such utterances have no room in our modern politics,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Mangulenje said he was born to a Christian father and a Muslim mother.<\/p>\n
DPP Secretary General Greselder Jeffrey\u2019s phone could not be reached while the party\u2019s spokesperson Francis Kasaila\u2019s phone went unanswered after several attempts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
