{"id":64354,"date":"2018-04-24T06:37:30","date_gmt":"2018-04-24T04:37:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=64354"},"modified":"2018-04-24T06:37:31","modified_gmt":"2018-04-24T04:37:31","slug":"chiletso-chipanga-wins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/04\/24\/chiletso-chipanga-wins\/","title":{"rendered":"Chiletso Chipanga wins"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Malawi\u2019s highest-rated chess player, Chiletso Chipanga, made a promising start to the World Amateurs Championship in Italy on Sunday after beating Saidi Dijal Ali of of Oman.<\/p>\n<p>Chipanga, who is rated 24th at the competition, is remaining with eight rounds at the event which has attracted 49 players.<\/p>\n<p>Chess Association of Malawi (Chessam) Publicity Secretary, Makhosi Nyirenda, said Chipanga needs to maintain the wins in the next rounds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course, Ali is not a strong opponent because he is rated 1928, which is lower than our star who is rated 2126. However, you cannot underrate an opponent at a competition because for them to qualify, it means that they also performed better,\u201d Nyirenda said.<\/p>\n<p>Chipanga, who was expected to meet Fide master Zhunussov Bibek of Kazakhstan Monday, qualified for the competition after he won a gold medal at the Africa Amateurs Chess Championship in Zambia last month.<\/p>\n<p>Chessam Executive Committee member, Susan Namangale, sponsored Chipanga\u2019s trip to Italy where $10,000 is at stake for the champion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Malawi\u2019s highest-rated chess player, Chiletso Chipanga, made a promising start to the World Amateurs Championship in Italy on Sunday after beating Saidi Dijal Ali of of Oman.
