This is daylight robbery. We are working hard to make our team strong and others are working hard to sabotage our mission! Just walk out!” Gangata yelled.

However, the players kept their cool and remained on the pitch before eventually continuing with the game.

After the game, one of the players, who did not want to be named, said they did not disobey Gangata’s order but felt it necessary to avoid penalties resulting from causing the abandonment of a match.

“We could have been penalised if we had chosen to abandon the game. Everyone is bitter with the outcome and even Wanderers supporters with sober minds will confirm that the goal was scored from an offside position,” the player said.

Wanderers Head Coach, Yasin Osman, said his charges will head into the derby against rivals Nyasa Big Bullets beaming with confidence from the narrow win. The bitter rivals will meet at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday in the league’s first Blantyre derby for the new season.

Osman said it was encouraging that his troops managed to collect maximum points against Masters when the game was seemingly heading for a barren draw.

“We sweated for this win and it has given us confidence ahead of the derby. Of course, we will not read too much into this game because we will be facing a totally different opponent,” he said.

Osman said his players deserve special praise for the win as Masters put up a gallant fight and proved to be a hard nut to crack.

“Our opponents came to defend and they held on until the dying minutes of the game. But we can now look forward to meeting Bullets after weathering the Masters’ storm,” Osman said.

The Nomads have six points from two games whereas Masters have a point from the same number of games.

Masters Security FC players defied orders from their sponsor and patron, Alfred Gangata, to abandon their TNM Super League match against Be Forward Wanderers at Balaka Stadium on Saturday.
