The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (Mera) has launched a Fraud and Corruption Prevention Policy aimed at fighting fraud and corruption at the energy authority.<\/p>\n
Minister of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining, Aggrey Masi, presided over the launch, held under the theme \u2018Zero Tolerance on Fraud and Corruption in Energy Regulation\u2019, at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n
\u201cMera is at the heart of the government\u2019s efforts in ending energy challenges in the country. As such, it is extremely important for the authority to carry out its duties with integrity and transparency.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis policy will ensure that all areas needing critical attention, as far as fighting fraud and corruption is concerned ,are effectively looked at,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Among other things, the policy mandates Mera and stakeholders to prevent, detect, report and investigate fraud and corrupt activities at all levels of its operations.<\/p>\n
Mera Board Chairperson, Reverend Joseph Bvumbwe, said the success of the policy would depend on proper coordination among relevant stakeholders.<\/p>\n
He said Mera is committed to ensuring that the policy yields desired results.<\/p>\n
One of the provisions in the policy is that of a free tip-off anonymous component whereby people are encouraged to report suspicious activities via the number 847 for Airtel, TNM and Access subscribers and 8000 0847 for those who use MTL lines.<\/p>\n
