{"id":63944,"date":"2018-04-16T06:58:16","date_gmt":"2018-04-16T04:58:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=63944"},"modified":"2018-04-16T06:58:17","modified_gmt":"2018-04-16T04:58:17","slug":"police-detain-mcp-member-in-zomba","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2018\/04\/16\/police-detain-mcp-member-in-zomba\/","title":{"rendered":"Police detain MCP member in Zomba"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Police in Zomba on Saturday detained Chancellor College (Chanco) Malawi Congress Party (MCP) wing director of women affairs, Rebecca Chakwera, for an hour in connection with a sweeping exercise they conducted.<\/p>\n<p>Chakwera, together with a team of the wing\u2019s newly launched women\u2019s league, conducted a sweeping exercise at central market.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview, Eastern Region Police spokesperson, Joseph Sauka, said the officers arrested Chakwera because she and the other wing members did not get permission from authorities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe consider anyone who conducts any exercise in the city without seeking permission from the city council, and without the approval of police, as a law-breaker. In line with protocol, it was normal to call off the exercise,\u201d Sauka said.<\/p>\n<p>But Chakwera maintained that she was granted permission by Central Market Chairperson, Innocent Chikhaula, on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>She said the market leader did not tell them to seek permission from the council and police.<\/p>\n<p>The exercise was part of the launch of MCP Chanco wing women\u2019s league, which was graced by MCP eastern region women\u2019s league second vice-chairperson, Nodia Manda.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Police in Zomba on Saturday detained Chancellor College (Chanco) Malawi Congress Party (MCP) wing director of women affairs, Rebecca Chakwera, for an hour in connection with a sweeping exercise they conducted.
