Malawi\u2019s own sport invention, gendaball, seems to have earned the confidence of the corporate sector as it continues to grow.<\/p>\n
After calling for support from various stakeholders to help in extending the game to all parts of the country, FDH Bank responded favourably by donating K400,000.<\/p>\n
Ethiopia-based Malawian gendaball inventor, Francis Mwalabu, made the disclosure on the sidelines of a clinic which the sport\u2019s steering committee held at Malawi Institute of Tourism (MIT) in Blantyre on Friday.<\/p>\n
\u201cLet me express my appreciation and gratitude to FDH Bank for the financial support of K400,000. With this financial support, we will manage to reach other parts of the country. So far, we are happy with how Malawians are responding to the game and we will do whatever we can to make sure that this sport becomes popular,\u201d Mwalabu said.<\/p>\n
FDH Bank Public Relations Officer, Lorraine Lusinje, said they were impressed with the proposal they got from gendaball.<\/p>\n
\u201cFDH Bank is a champion of growth and always takes keen interest in various opportunities that offer growth as a benefit to the people involved. The gendaball initiative is another avenue to foster creativity, teamwork and discipline in our people.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough the alumni association, teams that will take part in the tournament and, consequently, youths and others will benefit from this initiative. This is why we took interest in supporting the cause,\u201d Lusinje said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, MIT students have welcomed the sport and asked the steering committee to organise more clinics.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe sport is quite thrilling and it helps you to focus. I am willing to take it seriously if structures are there to play it regularly,\u201d one of the students, Augaden Mfune, said.<\/p>\n
Another student, Tionge Banda, said the nation should adopt the sport and introduce outreach programmes to promote it.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need to embrace this sport. It is exciting and easy to master,\u201d Banda said.<\/p>\n
