Veteran bassist, Felix Jere, who has performed with several artists in the country before starring in Edgar ndi Davis Band, has formed his own group known as Afro Jazz Band.<\/p>\n
Jere is one of the faces that have been missing in recent performances by Edgar ndi Davis Band.<\/p>\n
\u201cI now have my own band known as Afro Jazz Band. We actually perform in Blantyre at Sports Council on Friday, Jungle Pepper on Saturday and Sunbird Mount Soche on Sunday,\u201d Jere said.<\/p>\n
He said he was not in bad terms with Edgar ndi Davis Band but rather he just decided to move on.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just thought I needed to grow and do something on my own. Edgar ndi Davis Band will always be part of my family but, for now, I am not part of them,\u201d Jere said.<\/p>\n
Edgar ndi Davis Band, which is led by lawyers Davis Njobvu and Edgar Kachere said recently that some of their members had gone to work on their own projects.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are flexible as a group and so some of the members are doing their own things. As a group, we are intact,\u201d Njobvu said.<\/p>\n
Jere said Afro Jazz would want to bring out unique sound.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are not here to make up numbers but we want to bring out good sound and entertain people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Artists have come out to create bands only for the bands to die natural deaths but Jere said they are serious in what they are doing and that they would want to remain in the industry as long as they are alive.<\/p>\n
Jere called for support from people for the industry to grow.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe cannot excel in music if we do not have support. At the moment, the environment is not conducive as artists have to dig deeper [into their pockets].<\/p>\n
\u201cAs artists we are no longer selling CDs because of piracy and all we are depending on are live performances,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Jere, however, could not come out clearly as to whether they would record their own album anytime soon.<\/p>\n

Jere has over the years established himself as one of the finest bass guitarists in the country.<\/p>\n
He said he did not go to any music school to learn the bass guitar but was just passionate about music.<\/p>\n
