Chess Association of Malawi (Chessam) President, Kezzie Msukwa, has been awarded the International Arbiter by the world chess governing body, Fide.<\/p>\n
Arbiters are responsible for ensuring that chess players adhere to rules and regulations, apart from assigning pairings for clubs and dealing with no-shows by re-assigning games.<\/p>\n
Chessam publicist, Makhosi Nyirenda, confirmed that Msukwa qualified for the award following the approval of Fide\u2019s Presidential Board.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis happened after he accumulated the required number of norms to achieve such a status. We are delighted with the development,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Nyirenda said Malawi chess stands to benefit by having qualified arbiters such as Msukwa.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis shall mean Malawi having high levels of chess officiation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Msukwa joins former Chessam publicity secretary, Gilton Mkumbwa, who achieved the international status in 2013.<\/p>\n
In a brief message, Msukwa said he was humbled by the award.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt pleased the Presidential Board to award me Fide arbiter title,\u201d Msukwa said.<\/p>\n
Apart from Msukwa and Mkumbwa, Paul Nyirenda is also a qualified Fide Arbiter.<\/p>\n
The country has national arbiters such as Peter Jailosi, Magret Ngugama, Makhosi Nyirenda, Leonard Mbwana, Isaac Mumba, Kennedy Gondwe and Martin Mhango.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
