Lilongwe City Council (LCC) has partnered Standard Bank, sponsor of Be More Race, ahead of the race\u2019s second edition scheduled for June 9 in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n
LCC Chief Executive Officer, Moza Zeleza, announced the partnership during a press briefing held in Lilongwe on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe believe in a healthy society; so, we are in full support of the event. We support the initiative because it is very important that people should be fit all the time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The bank has been sponsoring the race since 2017.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s edition of the race was launched few weeks ago in the capital.<\/p>\n
During the launch, Standard Bank Chief Executive Officer, William Le Roux, said this year\u2019s race would focus on promoting group exercise as opposed to individual brilliance.<\/p>\n
Last year, the race took participants from the city to Kumbali Lodge but this time it would be a city centre.<\/p>\n
The race is split into categories for five kilometres, 10 kilometres and 21 kilometres for women, men and children above the age of 10 years.<\/p>\n
Prize money for the 21-kilometre race is K1.5 million, with the runners-up pocketing K900, 000 whereas third-place prize is K550, 000.<\/p>\n
Last year, Ndacha Mchelenje won the men\u2019s category championship whereas Nalicy Chirwa claimed gold for the ladies\u2019 section.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
