Malawi Boxing Association (Maba) has said it plans to send amateur boxers to South Africa and Mozambique for non-title fights.<\/p>\n
Maba\u2019s 10 amateur boxers made headlines last month when they lost all their fights in Zambia.<\/p>\n
But Maba boss Justice Katika said the association will not relent and will still expose boxers to international bouts.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was the first time that our current amateur boxers fought in an international tournament. The results were not good and this is why we are heading to Mozambique in June and South Africa in July,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Katika said the fights would help the boxers to gauge their strength and trainers to improve their tactics.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we are to change our boxing, we shouldn\u2019t be living in denial. We need to compete with the best in order to become the best,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He said Mozambique has pledged to provide accommodation and local transport for the boxers.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt means our role is to secure funding for transportation,\u201d Katika said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Katika has said Maba was failing to operate according to its plans due to limited funding, as the association gets K800,000 annual subvention from the government.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we are to run technical training as well as set up development structures, then we need about K10 million,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
